Great Blocks, Buy them on Sale !

Natural blocks, standard size, in a nice variety.
I bought these on a whim seeing them half off at the register of a kid's clothing store. I just checked amazon's price and it was about $70. Since I paid fifty percent off that, I was pleased. Sad the other reviewers felt gypped.
: My three and 1.5 year old like them, dad likes them even more. They provide half hours of fun. I just need to buy more!

Smaller than the Plan Toy blocks I had for my children yrs ago.

Blocks were much smaller than I wanted . Price much too high..$70 for 50 blocks.. Was going to cost over $30 to send back. Disappointed.

MUCH worse than the old Plan Toys set

This set is leagues below the old Plan Toys Unit Blocks set (9739). The set includes much smaller blocks and very few of the more standard ones. If you can get your hands on the old set, do it. I found the old set on Amazon.co.uk and they shipped it to the US. It's unavailable now but I do see one on Amazon.ca (Canada) though I'm not sure if they ship to the US.

Here is the breakdown of the blocks included in this set (5502):
8 cubes (not traditionally seen in a unit block set)
8 half-pillars (not very traditional and small - full size pillars would be much better)
8 half-columns (not very traditional and small - full size pillars would be much better)
2 regular pillars
2 regular columns
4 half-units
6 units (need many more than this)
2 unit arches
2 ramps (5.5 in)
4 right triangles (2.75 in)
2 semi circles (2.75 in)
2 isotriangles (5.5 in)

This set just has too many short and stubby blocks and not enough of the more substantial blocks. This set is not bad, but it's not a good base set.

The old set (9739) is much better. It includes:

8 regular columns
8 regular pillars
8 unit blocks
2 right triangles (5.5 in across the hypotenuse)
2 unit arches
8 half units
2 semi-circles (2.75 in)
4 right triangles (2.75 in)
8 planks (11/16" x 2.75" x 15.125")

We have both of these sets, so we can compare side-by-side. If you can get your hands on the old set, I would vastly prefer that over this set. I wouldn't purchase this set if it were the only set I could find. I would buy from Barclay Woods if I hadn't found the old Plan Toys set.

We did buy the extension set from Plan that you can view here: http://www.amazon.com/PlanToys-Unit-Block-Play-Set/dp/B002662K4A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417977217&sr=8-2&keywords=plan+toys+unit+blocks

It is great. And excellent extension to the old Plan Toys basic unit block set.

I have attached photos of the boxes of the old (9739) and the new (5502) unit block sets.

Safe Building Blocks!

These are great play blocks for children! I chose these over the painted blocks because the paint has been known to get absorbed through the skin and is toxic. These blocks are much safer, all the edges are smooth, and a great size for children!
