The book I wish I had as a kid!

The illustrations are so adorable and the storyline of this book warms my heart. I'm gifting this to a friend for her little ones but it's exactly the book I wish I could've had growing up!

A needed story!

We love "Mostly Me"! It's a great way to encourage the littles in our life to celebrate the multitudes they and others contain and to explore self-identity early in life. The kiddos seem to love the colorful illustrations and playful rhyming :)

Great book!

I love this book. My 6-year-old understood the deeper meaning of the book immediately and without prompting. We had a great conversation about being unique and being yourself. The pictures are cute and the words are meaningful, with such a powerful message. I recommended it to several local and school libraries, it's just that good!!

Wish I had this book as a child

Bought this book for my baby (due in May) and it is beautifully written and illustrated. I wish I had had this book as a young biracial child. It’s easy to understand and I hope will be grounding for my biracial child!

Multiracial Child Library MUST have

I excitedly purchased two copies! One for my baby who is half Filipina, half white and one for my niece who is half Chilean, half Filipina.

I read it to my baby as soon as it arrived & the book made me cry. And I think that it’ll always bring a tear or two to my eyes. She’s only 2 months and my niece is 5 months but oof. The message is powerful and the art is beautiful.

I wonder a lot about the world they will navigate being multiracial. I know my world being a first gen Filipina American was complicated growing up, and I think their lives will be less so, but there’ll still be some challenging times as they learn where they come from and how special they are. I never want them to feel less than or torn about their identities because they are biracial. I’m so happy they have a book like this to encourage them to embrace their identities fully from a young age. <3

Phenomenal book about biracial children

I cannot begin to express how pleased I was to find the book, Mostly Me! My grandson is of mixed race, Caucasian and Indian. This book is so well written and illustrated. It gets to the heart of what it means to be biracial or different on a child’s level of understanding. And it addresses potential racism or unconscious bias some people may experience. This book promotes positive self awareness and bolsters self esteem in even the youngest of children! Bravo to the author and illustrator!

Exactly what I never knew I needed to hear

I desperately wish this book had been around when I was growing up as a mixed-race kid in a world decidedly unfriendly towards mixed-race individuals. Now that I am a parent of my own mixed-race littles, I am so very appreciative that I am able to share this wonderful perspective with my own kids. I want my kids to grow up knowing that they are welcome anywhere, just as they are, rather than submit to the same traumatic pressure to change or diminish themselves in order to fit in. Thank you for this beautiful, healing book!

Cute

As an art teacher (love the use of color to depict the meaning) and a bi-racial person I really appreciated this book. I picked up a copy for my best friend's daughter, which I will give to her on her first birthday. She is also bi-racial. It is nice to have access to books like this now. I don't know if there were any when I was a kid and if there were, they weren't very accessible.

Excellent read about diversity!

My son recently purchased the book MOSTLY ME to introduce my grandson to what it means to be different….i.e. mixed race. As a former Pre-K teacher I was bowled over by the thoughtful words and perfect illustrations. The language used in the book is relatable to children birth through 3rd grade. The illustrations match the prose to a tea! While touching on the topic of potential bigotry or short sightedness on the part of others, it continues to validate the uniqueness of the child and foster a strong sense of self esteem. Bravo to both the author and illustrator for a job very well done. I plan on purchasing the book for myself to have at Oma and Ora’s home immediately. I also intend to inquire into whether our local elementary schools have this book in their libraries. If not, I will purchase one for each elementary in my district!

I needed this book as a child

This is the book I so desperately needed as a child. While it wasn't an available resource to me, I'm so glad my daughter will have it as she navigates the world and finds her identity. I've bought five copies - one for our family and four for friends.

Beautiful art, wonderful message

My two young children aren’t old enough to read yet, but they understand concepts like belonging and family. I’m so grateful this book was created to give them the words to see how they are unique and wholly both of their inherited cultures.

Heal your conflicted inner child.

Great book. I bought is for myself and a few of my mixed friends who have mixed babies. The kids don't really get it yet, but we do.

Delightful book for young children

It is so important to teach our kids the things that make them special in their own unique way.

This book is a gentle reminder and a way to help young readers celebrate those gifts.

Wish my hapa girls could’ve had this when they was young

I bought this book for my grandsons who are 1/4 Japanese, 1/4 German and 1/2 Irish. They physically identify as Caucasian. But it’s such a great way to let them know that all the differences make them who they are also makes them special. I just wish my daughters had this book growing up. Most people don’t realize that being “hapa” can mean not “fitting in” with either ethnic group completely, unfortunately. Thank you for this beautiful & important book!

Great Book and Resource

Have three Hapa kiddos (ages 2,7,9) and each one enjoyed the book in their own way. Nice to have children's literature created and written by the AAPI community. Keep up the good work at Gloo Books! Thank you!

A perfect gift

Mostly Me is such a sweet book, full of encouraging messages about accepting and loving yourself, just as you are. It's an instant classic in my eyes. I bought several copies to give as presents for the many kids in my life. I'll keep one for myself, though, because I want my future child to have it!
