Great for kids who like to know why

I have a very literal child. We talk alot about emotions. This book helped him have images for all the brain stuff we talk about. Like all the conscious stories books, it's a great conversation starter.

Such a cute story and a great way to explain the different chemicals in your brain and what their jobs are. I have heard her a couple times since reading this story say the saying from the book “I am safe, I am safe, I am safe”

My kids LOVE this book!

My 4.5-year-old and 2.5-year old both LOVE this book, and have it practically memorized. It’s so cute hearing them talk about “serotonin" and “dopamine,” but more importantly, it’s opened up conversations about what’s going on in their brains when they have tough moments. I chose to replace “yucky brain moments” with “tricky brain moments,” when I read, because my kids are prone to feeling shame about their big feelings, and I wanted to keep the language as neutral as possible. So now, my 2-year-old will sometimes tell us that he’s having a “tricky brain moment,” which is huge progress in learning to cope with his emotions! Neither of my kids have ever responded well to the current parenting advice to name the emotion they’re feeling, but they respond much better to Auntie Oxytocin’s words, “You are safe. You are safe. You are safe.” I think this book is a great introduction to what happens in the brain in fight or flight mode that even really little ones can understand, and it will lay the foundation for more detailed conversations in the future. And the illustrations are just beautiful. I’m so happy I got it!

The little Brain people

Such a beautiful and simple story to share language with our kids and help them through those moments of dysregulation and providing them ways to get back into a more regulated state. These books are a gem!

My 4 year old granddaughter has big feelings often and takes a long time to get over those feelings. After reading The Little Brain People a couple of times, she has begun to self regulate her feelings and tells me she had a “yucky brain moment”.

Amazing for all ages!!!

As a Mental Health clinician, I have to say this book is beautiful, easily digestible, and chalk for of knowledge to give both kids and adults a common language. The emphasis on connection is key to helping create and maintain this language. When parents AND kids know the how and why, they are more compassionate, less reactive and less afraid. This book is essential in every classroom!! It has been added to my resource list when I train teachers and I have yet to have a talk where they are not blown away. I love having kids make a menu of the ways that they release oxytocin so that they can refer to it when their brain feels hijacked by their amygdala.

Meaningful and relatable books

I personally relate with this book, 'Little Brain People '. I purchased this book to share with my grand daughter as she grows and learns to understand about yucky brain moments with survival reactions fight, flight and freeze. Helps in learning how their brain functions to help and protect themselves. As she may experience emotional changes as she grows and develops. The book helps and supports in showing the tools in balancing the brain by resetting and returning to a state of calm by breathing, moving, and feeling safe in reconnecting with each other.

This is a great little book for young people to help them understand changes in their emotional lives. My great niece found it really engaging and loved all the “little brain people”. I feel it will help her come to terms with emotional changes she may experience.

A meaningful and relatable book!

I bought this book for my five and seven-year-old grandchildren who were visiting recently. We read it together while they were here and talked about examples of when each feeling would be present. They both enjoyed reading the book with me and talking about it. Several times over the next few days I noticed my five-year-old grandson looking at the book on his own. Later, he was working on putting together a Lego kit and at one point he looked up at me and said “my dopamine is helping me with this”. He really got it!

3 year old’s favorite book

We’ve had the Little Brain People for a week now and it’s been read before every nap and every night at bedtime since it arrived. It truly clicked with my 3 year old son - he absolutely loves it. The stickers on the last page are a treat too. Thanks!

Great Book

Andrew Newman books are great quality books. Soft thick pages & cover. The colors are wonderful as well. These books are my favorite to read to my Littles because the psychology behind each story is interesting to them and me. Great all around.
