This book is chockful of information about individuals who played an important role in the Western expansion and cowboy history. We're planning to include it in our Horse Tales reading and riding program this summer. We'll also send a copy home with each child at the end of week. It will undoubtedly be a big hit!

I have not read the whole book but just skimming through, my first impressions are that the books are quality. The binding is tight, the paper is thick, the illustrations are beautiful and printed beautifully. The content provides just enough information to be suitable for a wide range of ages. This is going to be our before bed reading with my 13 yo because I'm too tired for anything longer at night. We read about Fox Hastings last night and bulldogging. Fun!

Any title that highlights underrepresented groups is a title I am interested in bringing into my classroom.

These books are beautiful, and so very well written! They are engaging and appeal to my 8 year old and 11 year old, and I believe would as well to an even wider range. Gems of history that are hard to come by are presented so well. I am so glad I got these books!

Was a bit worried this would have a liberal agenda but it was very balanced and beautifully done! What a fun way to learn lesser known players in the Old West history!

We checked this out from the library and I loved it so much I had to buy it. I'd heard several of the names (like Stagecoach Mary), but knew little to nothing about the people or their feats and stories. The man who was the likely inspiration for the Lone Ranger was by far my favorite. Definitely the kind of person I want my kids reading about. Plus several illuminating fact pages about the West generally - my favorite here was the Mexican vaquero terms that turned into cowboy slang (ten gallon ...

I borrowed this from the library for my 7-year-old and loved it so much that I wanted to get our own copy. Engaging, informative, and fun for kids. I learned a lot about all sorts of famous Wild West personalities who Is only heard the names of. We were studying vaqueros specifically, but the other stories were so great that we kept the book for longer. Some great role models and heroes for kids.

My grandchildren love, love, love this book ! Since the kids are spending less time w/their friends these days, 😕 keeping them busyis a priority. They read The True West, over and over again. Now they want cowboy/cowgirl hats. I think the same author, ?, has another book, called ZZZZZZ, that my 3 yr. old granddaughter insists be read before she goes to bed. Getting 3 books to give to family members. Highly recommend.

My grandkids LOVED this book! My 9 year old grandson read every single word (himself) and said, "It's incredible! I give it 5 stars! I love all the interesting people!"My just-turned 6 year old granddaughter said, "I could read more than half of it myself- sometimes I had to ask Mommy how to say some of the words, but it's AWESOME! I love the colors and all the amazing characters! It was a really, really fun book!"
