Combination Lock Box STEM Kit — Build a Working Safe

Combination Lock Box STEM Kit — Build a Working Safe

Regular price $18.00
Sale price Regular price

This STEM kit allows customers to build a working safe with combination lock. Shoppers praised the "high quality materials" and non-plastic construction. Assembly requires younger children (under 12) to have adult help. Some customers noted the lock mechanism can be fiddly and wood pieces require tight fitting. Fast shipping and popular as gifts.

Got 2 of them for Grandkids 10 & 11 yrs old. The younger one definitely needed some adult help. May be better suited for 12+ yr old to put together. But they liked them.

The included lock mechanism is very cheap quality, almost to the point of not being functional. The instructions aren't very clear on how to set the lock, it says "push up" but up is relative, in the end we got it to work by pushing it to the side, but even then the button doesn't work, you have to push the button and also push down on one of the tumblers to get the lock to undo. It feels so fiddly it would be easy to accidentally set the code to some mystery number. The wood components aren't bad quality but you WILL need to hammer them together because the notches are an extremely tight fit. It was the same on the other kit we bought, so I imagine it's the same on all their kits. The other kit we got was a clock and it seemed to work fine at first but stopped during the night. I got it to start again but who knows long-term.
