Customers praised the cap's ease of cleaning and durability, with many loving the chug functionality for quick drinking. However, significant concerns emerged about the metal handle loosening over time, making the cap difficult to remove. Several shoppers reported leaking issues and o-ring failures after extended use. "Easy to clean" and "great for gulping" were common positive remarks.

TKWide Chug Cap

The quality and ease of use varies, depending on the chug caps I received with my orders. Some are good quality and easy to use. Some have the steel handle not affixed tightly to the cap, causing the steel handle to swivel around the cap which results in difficulty in twisting the cap off the bottle.

TKWide Cap - O-ring "Gasket" Fail

Overall, I like my insulated bottle with the TKWide Chug Cap. The cap with internal threads and an o-ring seal is the problem. Not the threads, but the o-ring used to seal the cap. The o-ring is just too flimsy and no matter if I try to snug it up lightly or tightly, I often get leaks. Especially after about one year of daily use. Most water bottles have a more substantial silicone gasket. The o-ring in the TKWide is just not enough. I do like that the internal thread cap usually threads in to the bottle easier than many other caps with external threads. To make matters worse, the replacement o-ring is often out of stock on Klean Kanteen's website. When they do have the o-ring in stock, expect to pay twice as much for shipping as you pay for replacement o-rings. There are knock-off o-rings on Amazon, but I don't know if those fit properly.

Durable or Obsolete--cap hard to twist off now

I purchased the 32oz TK Wide some time in 2022 and 2023.

I've used this bottle almost every day since getting it and it has held up quite well despite having been dropped and dinked more than a handful of times. Keeps water cold and water hot for many hours.

The BIGGEST ISSUE I have after almost daily use is increasing difficulty in twisting the cap off. The metal handle has worn out the plastic stoppers that keep it in place and now rotates around the cap when I try to screw open the bottle. The bottle leaks if the cap is not screwed on tightly enough and has been a minor since receiving the product but is now complicating issues even more now with the stoppers having become worn out on my cap. If screwed on too loosely, the bottle leaks and if screwed on a little too tight, the cap becomes difficult to screw off.

The small stoppers that keep the metal handle in place NEEDS to be redesigned to be one single connected block that fills out the negative space in between where the handle comes in to wrap around the cap.

The product is good for the amount of fluid it can hold and insulation. Unfortunately, I can no longer say the product is good for durability due to the design flaw on the cap--making usage difficult over time.

With that said, I think it's just a matter of time before the clip on the cap that covers the mouthpiece will stop clipping onto the handle due to wear.

The body will last many years but the cap will last about 3 years with daily use before being too worn out to use with ease.

Very durable

I had it for years than I messed it up with a knife, but it still worked. I finally dropped it in a very nasty place so now after 4 years I'm getting another lid.

Poor customer service

The top and bottom didn’t fit so I returned for a refund. I am still waiting for the refund while Sezzle continues to charge me payments. I emailed the USPS receipt to you and you said you would check to see if you received the two items. I am still waiting for my refund through Sezzle

Great lid, silicone mouthpiece is ok

Fit perfectly on my TK wide bottle. Easy to open and close. Only downside is the silicone mouth part already smells like food residue (from eating and then taking a drink) but easy to clean and make it smell good as new

Nice alternate top

I like the chug cap a lot, but I have to say that the metal part can be very uncomfortable to grip. I got this as an alternative to the twist cap.

Does the job with some hiccups.

It is a good, secure lid that has never leaked in my experience. Two complaints however; first, the metal carrying loop around the outside of the lid tends to wear out the plastic and it makes it more difficult to remove the lid over time, two, I wish there was some sort of simple filter behind the mouthpiece because if you have ice in your jug, it can melt a little and then slip through the spout when you are drinking. This can be very annoying when chugging water as it is described. Overall it is a decent product but the design does need to be improved.

Updated Review

I left an eaier 2 star review because of a faulty lid with a spinning stainless steal bar. Company informed me this didn't sound right and reached out to send a replacement per their warranty. Since the issue I had was due to a faulty product and they reached out to make it right I wanted to edit my rating but can't figure out how so adding a new 5 star review as I am very happy with response and I did very much enjoy my klean kanteen aside from my bottles error!

Not sure if feature or bug. .

I bought my first klean kanteen earlier this year and I started out loving it! It's a 32oz TKWide that came with the chug cap. After about 5 or 6 months of normal use, I can no longer remove the lid from the bottle, rendering it useless.

To open the bottle, you need to use the stainless steel bar as leverage. Over time the steels grip on the bottle loosens and eventually just spins around endlessly when you're trying to twist your lid off. There is no where else to get a grip. 3 fully grown adults including myself tried fruitlessly to remove it but it could not be done with the loose steel bar.

I see a few other reviewers had this same issue and the company just responded saying it sounds like it needs to be replaced. Obviously. But is it supposed to only last a few months and we are expected to pay for a new one 2 to 3 times a year. . . ? I can't figure out by their response if I should order a replacement because mine was faulty or if this outcome is expected.

Chug Cap

Great for hiking & traveling. When I'm thirsty, I like to chug my water. This cap allows big gulps. The metal loop makes grabbing the container easy.

Whoever designed this should be sent to The Hague

This lid is horrible, I have no idea how the design was ever greenlit. You take it off by using the metal handle as leverage, but the metal handle isn't fixed to the lid, it's just tightly squeezed onto it. You also have to screw this lid on super tight to avoid water leaking out of the bottle. After a bunch of times removing the lid, the metal handle loosens up and no longer has a tight squeeze on the lid. The more you take the lid off, the looser it gets, and the harder it becomes to take the lid off because the metal handle just spins forever. WHY???

Basically turns it into a water bottle.

This is the cap if you want to haul it around in a backpack.

It screws on easily both onto the Kanteen and the cap spout which has a leash, short rubber strap.

I usually use a finger to hold back the cap to take a drink on the fly. If you have it sitting on a desk or table, you can clip the cap to the metal handle to get it out of the way.

Annoying to use due to the threaded cap

I bought this to be able to use my TK Wide bottle while biking. It sort of works for that purpose, but it’s not really practical to thread the cap on and off while biking, so water tends to bounce out of the bottle. All the complaints are true about the cover annoyingly smacking you in the face if you don’t have a second hand available to clip it onto the bar. I was under the impression that threading the cap on is only necessary if you need it to be leakproof to put it in a bag. The website description says you can just press the cap on for a loose seal. However, there is not in fact any alternative mechanism to hold the cap on. If the bottle tips over and the cap is not threaded on, it will spill everywhere. Yes this happened to me. Now I thread the cap off and on every single time I need to take a sip of water and it is very annoying to have to do this.

Also, you have to wash it at least once a week to keep it from smelling funky.

Easier to clean, make sure you tighten it well!

Easier than the twist straw cap to clean, but still leaks if you aren't careful closing it.

Replacement for a leaking top/straw

I had to purchase the TK wide chug cap because the TK wide insulated bottle with a twist cap/straw I purchased last year started leaking/shooting water. The top started leaking from the side and when untwisting the cap and opening the straw, water would shoot out causing the biggest mess (almost like a geyser). I reached out to customer service and they unfortunately were unable to provide a a solution. They mentioned a few and obvious trouble shooting methods (like make sure that the caps were secured and locked). I went ahead and purchase this top so I didn’t have to throw the whole bottle away. Hoping this new cap is reliable and does not leak.

Good for cold drinks!

I like this capa lot better than the cafe top. My old one was used by my late husband for coffee and I don’t drink coffee, so I got this top for me. Perfect!
Paired with the older Kanteen, it fits my cup holders and the ice lasts so long.

Better Handle

I like the cap. Although, I wish the handle was on a hinge and a bit bigger. It’s a little awkward to carry but not the end of the world.

Design flow

Another design flow for the lid (scillicone straw defect too), it doesn’t tighten the top lid, need strangely pushed to get tightened, when closing the lids, kids tend to use the metal to tighten the lid and after a few month of use, the metal parts just rotate and can’t tighten, eventually metal part came off and now can’t put it back. Such a disappointment.
